~A TERRIBLE LOVE by Marata Eros~ Blog Tour Review

A Terrible Love BannerHey crew,

We’re today’s stop on the TERRIBLE LOVE by Marata Eros Blog Tour. Let me first say get this on your TBR. It is a quick read with hotties, a witty, loyal, best friend, hot sex (tastefully done), and a suspense/thriller aspect to it. Oh and the main character is a dancer with a big freakin’ secret. Great formula (yes it may have been done once or twice before but don’t act like you didn’t read those and enjoy them too) that makes for an easy read. And it’s a stand alone so no cliffhanger and no waiting for the next one to come out. *Be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the review*

Book Description:

Jessica Mackey is living a meticulously fabricated lie of necessity. She’s left the secret tragedy of her past behind along with who she was and is forging ahead with a clean slate. Jess soon discovers that passion can’t be left behind; her own and that of the one man that sees who she really is. Whose presence caresses her soul in a way that may breach the peaceful life Jess has made for herself.

Devin Castile sees a young woman that is the missing puzzle piece to his existence and who is also the victim to a heinous crime. Devin convinces himself that he can remain emotionally distant even while indulging his physical desire for her. When the lies that Jess has made crumble before their attraction and the truth is revealed, one of them might pay with their life… or their very being.

This was a great read. I did not really know what the story was about aside from the synopsis. I hadn’t heard anything about it and I did not read anyone’s reviews on Goodreads or Amazon. What made me want to read it, if I am absolutely honest, is the author’s name. Now I know some of you are thinking, “has D finally taken a step into la la land?” I know that this is obviously a pen name but seriously it’s cool!!! What a play on Eros with the book title.

Alright, back to the book. The opening paragraphs grip you right away. My initial thoughts were, “where the hell is the author going to go with this story?” and I needed to keep going with this story. I needed to get to the end to have my questions answered. And along the way was bonus material.

The book boys involved in this were so different yet so similar to one another. There was Cas (or Devin or Castile or Devin Castile) and there was Mitch, Mitch Maverick. Their differences between one another made it difficult to choose- at least in the beginning. Both were deliciously hot. Cas in an almost intimidating but I am so drawn to you like a moth to a flame way and Mitch in that gush, he so sweet but all guy hot way. However, given what you know is going on in Jess’ (aka Jewell’s) life, you are constantly on edge with these guys and you keep waiting for something to happen. There definitely has to be a catch right? Of course! I did mention suspense/thriller remember? You will have this nagging thought and foreshadowing right form the get go of meeting these two guys. By three-quarters of the way through, I’m pretty sure most of you will figure it all out. Predictable yes. Still worth continuing to read? Um… ya.

Here’s the deal- this is a work of fiction and an escape read. Yes, some of you detest predictability. Get over it already! You did read that this is – a work of FICTION right? Even though I called it three quarters of the way in, I wanted to see how the author tied everything together and finished the story. Besides, it’s not like she doesn’t give clues throughout the whole story. Overall her story development is well played out. There were moments where you might roll your eyes at the almost stupidity of the main character- Jess Mackey (Jewell MacLeod). But remember she has this big secret that has made her life hell. Call me crazy but I’m pretty sure most people want to be loved, want to love and want to have a sense of normalcy in their otherwise messed up life- even FICTIONAL characters. So can we give Jess grace on her stupidity? The alarm bells were going off, she just wasn’t sure if she should act on them or not.

Overall this is a great curl up on the couch with your favourite liquid date on a weekend night and enjoy kind of read. Take it for what it is and roll with it. Besides Cas is hot!! I wish there was more of him and all his goodies. *This is the author’s first attempt at NA/Mature YA Contemp. She is typically a NA/YA Paranormal writer and an adult erotic writer under another name* D 4/5 based on that suspense aspect of it. I loved it!- you might start double checking the locks on your doors.
