My girl Jay Crownover has outdone herself. We loves us our Marked Men, Rule, Rome, Jet, Nash, Rowdy and Asa right? Well you best get comfy and get you a drink because Bax is coming. And let me tell you this boy gets you riled up, shaking your head, cussing and mad as all get out. But then, you find yourself ready to drop them panties and let the boy in. He is wicked and badder than bad but boy if you don’t want you some BAX. All I can say ladies is WELCOME TO THE POINT where it’s BETTER WHEN HE’S BAD! Enjoy the ride. And for the record that ride needs to be a Roadrunner or a ’70 Hemi ‘cuda- on top of the hood with the engine running.
Be sure to check out my review and an author interview with the amazeballs Jay herself.
About BETTER WHEN HE’S BAD:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover returns with a heart-stopping new series… Welcome to the Point.
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.
What can you say when you just knew, just knew without a doubt this book was going to be fabulous. I can’t say this is Jay Crownover’s best book because her Marked Men are some of my favorite reads and Bax’s story is so different. So let’s just say Jay Crownover can write a damn good story and we won’t compare her books—they are all completely different and hold their own right for the top spot. 😉
So BETTER WHEN HE’S BAD—you haven’t read about a bad boy until you’ve read about Shane “BAX” Baxter. He is truly bad. We’re not talking all talk, leather wearing, tattoo sporting, and raunchy mouth yapping. Nope, we’re talking bad seed, shady, lock your doors and keep the kids inside, criminal. Bax is the boy you could never bring home to mama. He is wrong on so many levels. But let me tell you if he is that kind of wrong, I do not want to be right at all.
Jay Crownover has this way about writing her boys. It is the absolute real, authentic, and brutally honest story she tells. Even if these boys don’t deserve the love of a good woman, you can’t help but find a spot in your heart to nurture their steeled one. The development of her characters is so complete yet flawed that their evolution throughout the story is fascinating. Page by page you could feel Bax, hard exterior start to allow goodness to show through. Not enough to make bring out the halo but enough that he is worthy of love.
Dovie, I just love this ginger tress beauty. All goodness but with a hidden edge to her. She is straight up the kind of character that we see with Jay’s female characters. They are strong when they need to be. Independent almost to a fault but have that small air of vulnerability that will bring even the toughest badass like Bax to their knees.
The secondary characters were dark, gritty and scary. And the story that follows them is full of intensity, raw primal survival on the streets with all the ingredients for a great suspense book with the romance that isn’t all bubblegum and Skittles.
Whether you like this book or not (and really how could you not. Seriously.) there is no denying the fact that Jay Crownover knows how to write real stories. You can feel the passion in the words on the page.
I am forever a fan of Jay’s. I’m pretty sure she could write about the damaging effects of dog piss on your manicured lawn and I would find it interesting. Thankfully she sticks to men that make the “book boy worthy” radar devices in your boobs tingle and your panties drop to your ankles. Jay Crownover, Bax, and BETTER WHEN HE’S BAD get
5 rev those engines stars!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by Flirty and Dirty. We loves you!!!
I love you too!!! So-so much!!!
1. Rule was your first published book. *sigh* He’s still my favorite book boy. But Rome, Jet, Nash, Bax and I’m pretty sure Rowdy and Asa come in on his heels. LOL. What made you want to write and then put yourself out there for everyone to see?
I didn’t write to put myself out there for everyone else to see. I wrote a story I wanted to read. That’s what I do with every single book I write. It never once occurred to me that I was putting myself on a stage for judgment and opinion on what I was or wasn’t doing. Obviously now at this point in the game that has changed but I still write for me first, tell my stories my way, regardless of popular opinion and honestly it’s worked pretty well for me. I think book-land needed a rebel like me to shake things up a little bit.
I’m so glad you arrived girl!!!
2. What do you think sets your book boys apart from everyone else’s? Because there is something about them… *fans self* Is it hot in here?
Lol…they are all hot…in an unusual and obtainable way. I don’t make them dream guys, I try and make them guys that seem like any girl might be lucky enough to land in the real world. I also write them very secure in who they are. Sure they grow and learn some serious lessons along the way, but my boys are always comfortable in their skin-be it marked or not-and I honestly think that’s where the core of their sex appeal comes from.
3. What keeps you humble?
I don’t have a public self and a private self. With me what you see is what you get on a good day or bad. I feel really lucky to get to do what I do and I appreciate the work and heart that goes into it. I’m a reader first so I understand how cool it is, how special it is to get the chance to write…I’ll never take the opportunities I’ve been given for granted. Plus I have really cool readers, amazing book friends, really awesome non-book friends and a mom that would knock me senseless if I got too big for my britches. The next big thing is always on its way up behind you so enjoying the moment while it’s happening is really important…my bestie reminds me that almost every release day when I have an anxiety attack.
For the record I love your mama. And after meeting her, I know the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. You two are some classy ladies.
4. You write these amazing men and women too but the men in your books are definitely the focus. Do you think that you might write about a bad girl? Or a story where the female is the focus? Or maybe another genre?
Hmm…Well the girls are a focus but admittedly the boys speak louder to me as they tell their story. I have a really-really bad girl in then new series that most haven’t met yet and I have plans for life after the Marked Men that might star some interesting ladies but that’s all up in the air for now…In the second book in The Point series Brysen was really clearly defined to me. It sort of feels like she takes the lead in that book…I dunno I just write what the voices in my head tell me to.
5. It’s not a Flirty and Dirty interview without this one… tell us one flirty thing about you and one dirty thing about you. 😉
Dude I have mad game! It’s from bartending. I have stellar pick–up skills…too bad I have no time or no interest in putting them to use 0_o
Lol…I have a black lab and white carpet…can you imagine anything dirtier than that 😉
There you have it crew a sneak peek at who the real Jay Crownover is. This woman is classy, down to earth and so genuine.
Loves you girl!!!

Jay Crownover is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men series. She will also be introducing the dark and sexy world of The Point in a new series this summer starting with Better When He’s Bad. Like her characters, she is a big fan of tattoos. She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she’ll settle for writing stories with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.
