Lead Me Not by A. Meredith Walters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A. Meredith Walters is one of my favourite authors. I always worry when authors have a new book coming out that somehow they just won’t be able to keep up with the awesomeness. I think that this author has some major story mojo. LEAD ME NOT did not disappoint. Walters has the incredible talent of taking difficult subject matter and weaving it with the most real and amazing characters. She doesn’t make the story fluffy or vague that is inept or portrayed in an unlikely way. Yet she brings a story that won’t drown us in pessimism or doubt.
What I love about her characters and especially in Lead Me Not was that even with their extreme weaknesses she gives them some strength. They aren’t hopeless but they are going to have to fight and fight hard. She also makes her characters intelligent and talented yet taints them with a little bit of naivety.
I have to say Maxx, even with all his problems is one of my favourite characters. He’s layered and complicated in so many ways. He’s fighting for something beyond himself making him selfless and misunderstood. But it also makes him vulnerable and irrational. He’s caught and there is only one way out- one right way.
Aubrey is one of those female characters that you can’t help but become invested in. She is always out to prove something. Prove she is worth it. She is strong but trying to find her footing, where she fits. She is also trying to move forward without letting go of the past in any way.
LEAD ME NOT is a captivating story of loss, guilt, trying to find your way on your own but falling into dependency beyond your control. The story is strong, well written and memorable characters. it is a story that will stick with me and will make it difficult not to compare others to it.
Bravo A. Meredith Walters. D 5/5
