perfect regret GRSYNOPSIS:

Riley Walker makes all the right decisions and knows exactly where her life is headed.

Riley Walker does not make mistakes.

Riley Walker certainly doesn’t make spontaneous decisions.

But then Riley Walker gets dumped.

Spectacularly, gut-wrenching, stomp all over her heart dumped. And she is feeling more than a little angry. And a whole lot bitter. And suddenly the girl who has always done everything right feels like doing something completely wrong.

Garrett Bellows, lead guitarist for the local band, Generation Rejects, is going through life without a plan. Trying not to think past the next gig or the next party, he has worked hard to not become too attached to anyone or anything. So he is shocked to find himself drawn to the snarky girl with a chip on her shoulder. She pisses him off and puts him down. He knows she’s nothing more than a self-entitled college brat who thinks she’s better than the townie boy without a future.

Alcohol and a hefty dose of lust leads to a night both Riley and Garrett immediately regret. Her embarrassment, his pride and the weight of rumors and misconceptions convince Riley and Garrett that their one-time indiscretion will never be repeated. Particularly when their harshest critics are each other.

But how do you reconcile a head that wants to let go with a heart that keeps holding on?

And what happens when your biggest regret begins to seem almost perfect?

Let me just say that the ever talented A. Meredith Walters owns me with her beautiful writing. she never ceases to pull at my heart and make me feel a storm of feelings. Her writing is heartfelt, raw, emotional and poetic.

She brings the characters alive with their true as life personalities. Perfect Regret is one of the most gripping examples of this. Riley’s witty sarcasm is so bang on for someone who is coping to hide things about themselves. Yet she is so funny, you can’t help but love her sense of humor and sarcasm. There were times, you hoped that she would shut up and avoid pushing people away but it just wasn’t the case. Riley just couldn’t help herself and know when to close her mouth. Her expectations of herself were what many want to accomplish or strive for but very few of us can stick to the plan.

Garrett Bellows is misunderstood and he misrepresents himself. he does this to hide behind his pain and regret. he is beyond talented, he is intelligent and he truly does wear his heart on his sleeve even when he tries to cover what his true feelings an thoughts are.

I absolutely love how A. Meredith Walters seamlessly interweaves all her characters throughout the story. She does a fantastic job of building up the secondary characters so that they are not just in the story as token story line filler. Their role in the story is pivotal to the main characters journey and path within the story.

What truly won me over,  (although it’s not hard to do if A. Meredith Walters writes it) is the small but noteworthy detail of the characters looks. Typically in most NA, contemp books the characters are physically flawless. They may be be riddled with daddy issues, pasts riddled with heartache etc. but their bodies and face are always untouchable. Gorgeous without a doubt– physically almost unattainable. In Perfect Regret, it’s not that the characters are not gorgeous because they are; just in the eye of the beholder so to speak. What I mean to say is that the author does not spend copious amounts of time relishing in their physical beauty. She doesn’t spend words upon words trying to convince us and woo us, the reader that they are gorgeous. We just feel it.

Another great hook to this book is the emotional strength of the characters. they aren’t all wishy washy, they speak their minds and can stand on their own two feet. So much so that the characters go toe to toe in their tenacity and guarding of their hearts. I also love that there isn’t an imbalanced or one-sided notion of saving someone. It’s not like your typical knight in shining armor and damsel in distress formula. So even though these characters have vulnerabilities, you aren’t cringing because they won’t say what they want to say.

A.Meredith Walters wrote PERFECT REGRET with the perfect amount and balance of love, angst, regret, life problems and soul searching.
