Title: Rome (Marked Men #3)
Author: Jay Crownover
Genre: New Adult
Publication Date: January 7, 2014
Publisher: William Morrow an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing
Event organized by: Literati Author Services, Inc.
Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Jay’s best yet. She will rip your heart out and put it back together with even more love!!!
Okay first off let me just mention the cover– do you see that man’s eyes? Absolutely beautiful. Oh my heck, he can hypnotize you with those blues!!!
Speaking of hypnotizing people, Jay Crownover will do just that with Rome Archer’s story. You will not be able to put it down. Although you could read this as a stand alone, it is highly recommended you read the series in order. ROME is book #3– Rule #1 and Jet #2 are amazeballs and definitely worth the read anyhow.
As Jay Crownover writes each book in this series, she adds another layer to all the ‘Marked Men’ These aren’t just tatted up, angsty, boys. Their stories tell so much and are so raw. The guys are ‘what you see is what you get’ and Rome Archer is definitely that kind of guy. Everything about him is big, bold and assertive. He is not the gentle softy man, he is alpha in every sense and doesn’t know how to be anything but in control. So when tiny, smart mouthed Cora rolls into the picture, Rome’s world tilts on it’s axis.
The polar opposite attraction of these two isa so much fun to read and the two of them balance out the emotion of the story. I won’t lie, there is so much to Rome that pulls at your heartstrings. I ugly cried and ugly cried. Rome doesn’t hide behind any facade, all his emotions whether it be anger, hurt, being afraid, all of it is worn on his sleeve.
Cora’s patience and compromise yet her strength and will make her an amazing heroine. She is such a worthy book character. I love that she is not wishy-washy, she is not whiny. She is independent, assertive, funny, compassionate, loving, beautiful, generous and any other positive descriptor you can add.
I remember reading Jay Crownover’s very first book, RULE a few days after it was released. From then I knew she was going to do great things with her characters and her books. She has proven it without any doubt, her amazing talent to bring your heart into her books and into her characters. It’s almost as if you take on this possessive and protective way about her characters but also her as well. I am forever a fan of Jay Crownover and her books. I absolutely cannot wait for book #4 Nash to come out. I know that it will be absolutely amazing!!!! Rome and the rest of the Marked Men are definite, no two ways about it, one click now reads!!! About the Author
I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.
I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
