They say it takes 21 days to form a habit.
They lie.
For 21 days she held on.
But on Day 22, she would have given anything for the sweet slumber of death.
Because on Day 22, she realizes that her only way out means certain death for one of the two men she loves.

A haunting tale of passion, loss, and redemption, The Paper Swan is a darkly intense yet heartwarming love story, textured with grit, intrigue, and suspense. Please note: This is NOT a love triangle.

A full-length, standalone novel, intended for mature audiences due to violence, sex and language. Subject matter may be disturbing for some readers.

Absolutely stunning the words Leylah puts to paper.
Leylah Attar blew me away with her debut novel 53 Letters For My Lover but she absolutely awed me with The Paper Swan. It is not very often that I like to be on the outside looking in when reading a story but Ms. Attar has such a cadence and beauty to her words that i will gladly be a voyeur of her stories. Right from the first words, I am hanging on to the story for dear life, trying to get as much as I can. I don’t think I can ever have enough of Attar’s story-telling. it truly is beautiful.
The Paper Swan has so many elements and layers to keep you hooked. The humour, the suspense, the angst, the romance, the sensuality, and the reality of the story make it one to which I was instantly drawn in and connected. Attar creates characters that in some ways are extraordinarily ordinary yet somehow just out of reach which makes them book/story worthy.
I absolutely love how her stories span years and that she can develop and mild her characters in such a way that you fall in love with them, then out of love and then in love with them all over again.
The Paper Swan is a story of how “love don’t die.” It is a story of disappointment, hope, change, and forgiveness.
Leylah Attar is incredibly talented and she exhibits this through strong story development that spans years whereby you see the characters grow from children into adults. Her talent is most definitely illuminated through poetic descriptions. I find myself constantly highlighting and revelling in many quotes throughout the story.
The Paper Swan is a story that days after you finish the last page you will still think about.
A must read.  D 5+ stars

I was still peering out of the stateroom window when Damian came in. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me. For one full, glorious second, he wasn’t in control. His gaze swept the length of my legs, over the hip-hugging shorts, and lingered on the swell of my breasts under the scandalous top. Ha! He wasn’t immune after all. He caught the smug look on my face before I could wipe it off, and his eyes narrowed.

I took one step back for each one he took forward, until I was jammed up between him and the wall.

God, he was intense. And deliberate. And he could say things with his eyes that made my knees tremble. One side of his face was bruised and distorted from where I’d hit him. He grasped both my wrists in one hand and pinned them above me. Every part of me felt flush with the heat emanating from his body, even though that was the only point of contact. He hooked a finger in the ‘V’ of my blouse, tracing the dangerously low cleavage. His touch was so soft, it was barely discernible.

“Skye?” He seemed hypnotized by the rapid rise and fall of my chest.

I swallowed.

“Don’t play with scorpions unless you intend to get stung.” He yanked the neckline apart.

Round, glass buttons popped onto the floor and rolled around like eyeballs, astounded by the sight of my bare flesh.

“We’re harsh and predatory and full of venom.” He gnashed his teeth at me and ripped my blouse in two.

He tore off a strip and bound my wrists. Then he used the hanging trail like a leash and led me to bed.

“You’ve been trying to get a rise out of me for days. Now that you have my attention, what are you going to do?” He leaned forward, so close that I fell back onto the mattress, trying to get away from him. “Or is it that you want me to do all the work so your pampered pussy gets a taste of the other side, but you can tell yourself you didn’t have a choice?” He crawled up over me, slowly, until we were nose to nose.

I felt like hell was about to consume me. I could hear the men outside, gearing up to fill the tanks. Would they hear the sound of my screams?

“Would you like me to invite them in?” Damian secured my wrists to the bed post. “Do you really think you’d be safer with them instead of me?” He tore off another strip, giving me the chance to scream or yell or shout for help. When I didn’t, he tied it around my mouth.

He sank back on his heels, kneeling between my legs, and ran a finger from my neck to the front clasp of my bra. I stopped breathing. He moved on, trailing over my stomach, until he got to the band of my shorts. He toyed with the tab, enjoying the start-stop effect it had on my heart.

“Such a frightened little bird,” he said. Then he yanked my legs around his hips so I was flush with his rock hard arousal. “You should know better than to provoke me.”

53 Letters for my loverSynopsis

This is not your typical love story.
It’s not so black and white. Lines are crossed.
Walls are smashed. Good becomes bad.
Bad becomes very, very good.

Shayda Hijazi—the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect daughter. For thirty-three years, she has played by the rules, swallowing secrets, burying dreams and doing whatever it takes to anchor her family. Shayda Hijazi is about to come face to face with the one thing that can rip it all apart, the one thing her heart has always been denied: Love.

Troy Heathgate—untamed, exhilarating, dangerous—a man who does exactly as he pleases. Life bends to his will. Until he comes across the one thing he would give it all up for, but can never have.

Born on the same day in opposite corners of the world, their lives collide. And nothing is ever the same again.

Spanning three decades, 53 Letters for My Lover is a fiercely sensual, emotional ride to the heart of an epic, forbidden love that defies it all—an intimate exploration of love, loyalty, passion, betrayal, and the human journey for hope, happiness and redemption.

“Sexy, intense fiction isn’t afraid to step out of the box.”

53 Letters for My Lover (53 Letters for My Lover, #1)53 Letters for My Lover by Leylah Attar

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*My review can’t even do this book justice. 53 Letters For My Lover is THAT book…
Not very often you come across a book that will stick with you forever. 53 Letters For My Lover is one such book. Leylah Attar wrote an incredibly poignant, empowering and humbling story of love that doesn’t relish in time but in the depth relationships.
I cannot tell you how eloquently the words flow from the page. The characters are stunning in their dynamics. Like the inner workings of a fine watch, the depth of the characters’ feelings stood the test of time.
Shayda embodies what many women strive to become. She is strength, she is love. Her decisions were never a sign of weakness but that of selflessness. Troy’s character added the balance of humor and sexy to a story that often tugged fiercely at the heartstrings.
Every single character was so well written and woven into the story. The cadence of Leylah Attar’s prose is absolutely captivating. So beautiful.
53 Letters For My Lover is one of those stories I have great difficulty in articulating how much I loved the story. It is a book that sticks with you for a long time if not forever. I could read Attar’s words over and over. If you are looking for a story that runs deeper than romance this is definitely the story for you. It is a must read and more. I don’t think I have ever given a book more than 5 stars but this book deserves a hundred times that. 5+++ D/D

The doorbell rings. Repeatedly. Followed by loud thumping on the door.

“Coming, coming! Now what did you what forget?” I swing the door open.

My heart screeches to a slamming halt. “Troy.” I turn pale. “You…you shouldn’t be here.”

“No?” He storms past me into the house. “Where should I be, Shayda? Waiting by the phone? Staking out your office? Checking my email? Where the fuck, Shayda?” His fist slams into the console table, so ‘fuck’ is an obscure, jarring thud, like some censored song on the radio.

“I changed my mind.”

“You changed your mind. Just like that?” He starts pacing the hallway. “And when were you were planning to tell me exactly? When, Shayda?”

“I made a mistake.” My voice quivers. “I got caught up in the moment. We were alone, we were away. It was…it was all an illusion.”

“An illusion?” He pulls me hard against him. Our bodies collide, knocking the breath out of me. “Is this an illusion?”

His lips assault mine.

“And this?” His hand slides under my dress, claiming my thigh.

“What about this, Shayda?” He pushes my panties aside and slides two fingers inside.

“Tell me, Shayda. Tell me this is all in my head.” He shoves me against the door and deepens his strokes. “Tell me this is nothing.” He rubs his fingers on my neck, leaving the unmistakable trail of my reaction.

“This is you, Shayda.” His finger slips inside my mouth. “Your taste, your smell, your skin, your touch.” He grabs me by the hair and pulls my head back. “Tell me you’re not real, Shayda. Tell me!”

I feel the gathump gathump of his heart. Our breath comes in short, shallow gasps. His eyes darken, black holes pushing sky blue irises to the edges of raw emotion. Hunger. Anger. Love. Pain.
