In the weeks following Aidan’s betrayal, Emma has tried her best to move on. Ignoring his countless texts, voice mails, and flowers, she isn’t sure she wants to be won back by him. But Aidan isn’t going down without a fight—especially not until Emma lets him reveal the secret of his past that caused him to be so commitment phobic.
But fate intervenes when premature labor forces Emma on strict bed rest for two weeks. Aidan steps forward with a shocking proposal. To prove his love and commitment for her and their unborn son, he will take a leave of absence from work to care for her around the clock. Vowing to guard her heart, Emma reluctantly agrees.
While she is touched by Aidan’s attentiveness and tender loving care, Emma is thrown for a loop by the amorous attentions of ER doctor, Alpesh “Pesh” Nadeen. Pesh is everything Emma could ever want—successful, stable, and ready to settle down and be a husband and father. Pesh wants nothing more than to win Emma’s heart, but she is not sure she’s able to give it.
Her heart may still belong to the very man who broke it—the one who is so desperately trying to win her back.
Flirty and Dirty Book Blog Presents: An Interview with Katie Ashley 🙂
D and I would like to thank the FANTABLOUS Katie Ashley for taking the time to chat with us Flirty and Dirty gals today! We are HUGE fans of The Proposition and The Proposal! Emma and Aidan are one of Nic’s all-time favourite couples.
Hello Katie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk with us.
F&D: What inspired you to write The Proposition??
K A: I was told by my former Young Adult agent to write what I know, and I guess you could say that’s how The Proposition was born. I am Emma in many ways with the loss I’ve experienced and the overwhelming desire for a child.
Ironically, the Proposition started off by a few writer buddies challenging each other to write a “naughty” scene last spring. The first thing I ever wrote of The Proposition was the office “baby-making” scene. I was hooked then, and I wanted to finish this story.
F&D: Are Aidan and Emma based on people you know or are they completely fictional? Are you and Emma anything a like??
K A: Aidan is completely fictional although he’s a little bit of a mesh up of guys I’ve known. However, his love of family, just like Emma, is very much my own. And as I’ve mentioned before, there is a lot of me in Emma, but a lot has been fictionalized as well.
F&D: Is there a particular scene from either The Proposition or The Proposal that was very dear to your heart?
K A: Oh man, there’s too many to list!! In the Proposition, I think it would be when Emma finds out she’s pregnant and realizes that finally something wonderful and beautiful that she has wanted all her life is finally going to come true. I also love the Barn Dance/mountain scene because that is so true to my roots, and any interactions with their families—like the pool scene with the nephews and meeting Patrick for the first time.
I’ll try to be vague for The Proposal since people haven’t read, but Chapter 14 and Noah’s delivery.
F&D: If you were to cast The Proposition /Proposal Movie which actors would play which characters?
K A: Well, most people probably know I have Supernatural obsession, lol. So Jensen Ackles is who I saw in my mind for Aidan when I was writing The Proposition. And then for Emma, it is Christina Hendricks.
F&D: We were very sad for The Proposal to end because we love Emma and Aidan so, did it make you sad to write the end of this series?
K A: Yes and no. It is true that Aidan and Emma get their HEA in the Proposal, but we’re not done with them yet. We will be seeing them again in The Pairing—Pesh and Megan’s story. If you don’t remember Megan, she’s Aidan’s niece and Mason’s mom. They’re first paired together as godparents for Noah as well as a matchmaking scheme by Emma and Aidan, but neither is receptive. Megan has sworn off men after Mason’s father abandoned her when she was pregnant, and Pesh is still reeling from his wife’s death. But when they get thrown together again when Megan does her nursing clinical’s in the ER under Pesh’s supervision, things start to change.
All the characters from The Proposition and Proposal will be back in The Pairing.
F&D: Now that The Proposal is finished what do you have in the works next?
K A: Well, I have a New Adult/Rocker book coming out in March called Music of the Heart. Then in May/June, I have a sexy, murder mystery comedy called Drop Dead Sexy. Then a New Adult angsty romance called Do Not Go Gentle, for the Dylan Thomas poem, that will release in September.
Now that I’m a full-time writer, I’m hoping to be able to release books on a 2 to 3 month schedule.
F&D: Who is your favorite Author and why?
K A: Oh, man, that’s a tough one, but I would have to say Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book, and the story inspired me to write my first novel. I really wouldn’t be here without here. I also loved getting to teach the novel to my students as well.
F&D: What are the next 5 reads on your TBR?
K A: Bad Rep by A. Meredith Waters , The Perfect Game: J. Sterling, Hopeless by Colleen Hoover and a Reread of SC Stephen’s Thoughtless and Effortless before Reckless comes out!!
F&D: Thank you again Katie Ashley for taking the time to sit down with us. We can’t wait to read what you have coming out next
K A: Thanks for having me ladies! I appreciate your support so, so much!
We love this lady sooooo much and can’t wait to read all of the novels Ms. Ashley is working on!
Flirty and Dirty Book Blog’s Review of The Proposal
So you have been waiting and waiting to read The Proposal by Katie Ashley?!?!?! I’ll let you in on a little secret…. It was FREAKIN’ AMAZING!!! If you loved The Proposition, and I soooo did, The Proposal will not disappoint!
Do not read this novel if you have not read The Proposition first!
The Proposal picks up where The Proposition left off, with Aidan trying to fix the damage he has caused. I can’t say too much without spoiling it for you but I will tell you that the emotional rollercoaster ride that Ms. Ashley will take you on will be worth it. The raw emotion I felt while reading The Proposal was amazing…I laughed, I cried, I wanted to slap characters around! The reader learns much more about Emma and Aidan’s pasts in The Proposal, giving insight into why they have ended up where they are. I love Emma’s stubbornness, and how much she loves the people in her life with her whole heart. Emma definitely is one of my all time favorite female characters. My heart will always belong to Aidan, whether or not he is an ass! I love that Aidan is not the “perfect man” having realistic characteristics, but more than anything I love that I can feel how deeply he loves Emma.
If you think that The Proposal is going to be a cut and dry sequel, think again!! There are twists and turns thrown in that will have your heart pounding while holding your breath (I know I did). I can’t say anything further, without giving spoilers, other than…. Enjoy the ride; I was sad for it to end.
Looking for a read that will take you on an emotional journey that you won’t want to end… The Proposal is just what you are looking for! Thank you Katie Ashley for sharing this amazing story and these amazing characters! N. 5/5
