Synopsis:

*This is the third and final book in The Raine Series. WARNING contains mature content and language

Kayla seems to have it all. She has a wonderful man who would go to the ends of the earth for her and a family that seems to support her regardless of the consequences.
But is it enough to help her face her demons and to truly find happiness within her heart?

Madison never thought he would be faced with so many life altering decisions at such a young age. he wants to do right by Kayla and his family, but when old wounds reopen he finds himself questioning every choice he has ever made.

Life isn’t all it seems for these two and they’re coming to the realization that there will always be someone wanting to come along and destroy it all.

Will following her heart prove to be the right decision, or will it be the one thing that could make the only man she’s ever loved, say good-bye for good?

Excerpt:

A stray tear rolled down my cheek and landed on my shirt as the weight of his words settled into my chest. He was right, about everything. I have always questioned myself because of my mother. I had always felt less than a person and never felt worthy of anybody’s love, let alone a poor helpless child. What if I turn out to be exactly like my mother? I now had a better understanding as to how Madison has felt his whole life.

I quietly turned on my heel, making my way back outside and onto the porch. I looked out over the expansive land wondering how this all was supposed to work out for us. We couldn’t live at our grandparents for the rest of our lives. We needed a plan. One that would work for both of us.

Review:

Book three in the series still has me swooning over book boy Madison Raine!!! I love his character and his sense of family and loyalty. I love how the grandmothers in the story are strong matriarchs who are loving, understanding and just plain cool. They reminded me so much of my grandmother. Amanda Bennett really knows how to center her stories around family and how they really are the glue to keeping life together.

There were a few parts that I felt were a little over the top- especially a pivotal scene in the book. It had me thinking really? But at the same time it’s a fictional story with fictional characters so hey why not?  It made for an exciting scene that’s for sure. There was also one part in the story where a character from the first book was revisited. I thought that Amanda might have expanded more on that character but I was left thinking so what’s the deal with this character? Why bring into the story again?

The girls, both Kayla (mc) and Cami (supporting character) are still funny as ever—they are quick witted with a sharp tongue and aren’t pushovers. They are young so they think with their heart and not always with their head but you never for one moment ever see them waver in their love for each other, for family and for their men. Also I think that although there were times i wanted to toss kayla to the sharks, her reactions to some very grown up situations were typical of a 17 yr old girl trying to find her niche in the world.

This Heart of Mine was a quick read and held my attention for the whole book. There were parts that made me want to throw my reader and parts that made my heart smile. The hot factor was there and there were times I got to laugh while thinking about hanging out with friends at that age.

I know this is the last book in the series, which I think the series ended the way it should have. The only thing I would want to see is more about Madison and Kayla’s friends Cami and Glenn. Maybe a spin off series Amanda? 😉

Overall this was a good read and I enjoyed the series. D 3.5/5
